'South Azerbaijan able to turn down the whole system of power in Iran'

News.Az interviews Alex Pisman (Ishshal), professor, historian and sociologist (Israel).

Iran has already called back his ambassador from Baku being outraged with the secular statehood in Azerbaijan and its contacts with Israel and the United States. How can you explain these sharp actions by Tehran in conditions of its complex position on the international arena?

I do think that the Iranian tactics is counted to press on neighbors, intimidate them with the visual determination to implement its global plans and dominate not only in its region. Azerbaijan is a burr in the saddle of Ayatollahs for many reasons:

- first is the independent foreign policy of the country when Azerbaijan has distanced from the fanatics of neighbor Iran and the unprincipled position of Russia rather interested in keeping the Karabakh conflict unsettled and at an impasse, which is suitable for both Iran and Iran;
- second is that Azerbaijan, as a modern and dynamically developing country, is a model of prospering economy, internal stability and spiritual world amid complex conditions, where diverse ethnic groups coexist peacefully, where there is no tendency for return to the medieval ignorance, where modern tendencies of development are respected along with the growing interest of the Islamic world to the traditions and important religious canons;
- third, the problems of South Azerbaijan, especially in the light of suppression of opposition and falsification of the results of the recent presidential elections, when Azerbaijani religious and public figures, overall moderate and more loyal to the western countries, naturally the Iranian neighbors and able to hold a more balanced foreign and domestic policy of the country, were running for high positions in Iran.  South Azerbaijan is able to turn down the whole established system of power and government in Iran as soon as it assesses its real potential and it is extremely undesirable and fearful for Ayatollahs.

It is not a secret that all attempts to deepen national self-conscience, develop national culture were suppressed in South Azerbaijan for years along with the active ‘Persianization’ of tens of millions of people. It seems that this will end sooner or later and in the established conditions Ayatollahs believe that the the pressure on democratic modern Azerbaijan would protect their interests.

Therefore, the example of modern democratic Azerbaijan, which Azerbaijanis of the south Iran have the right to take pride in, is fearful for the Iranian top which results in all demarches, definite provocations and actions of the Iranian leadership against Azerbaijan;

Fourth, I suppose that Iran’s won’t go farther than the further intimidation and demarches, provocations and different ‘shits’ against Azerbaijan since the real risk for Ayatollahs and Ahmadinejad to get involved into a real conflict with Azerbaijan is extremely high and would have very unpredictable and far-reaching negative implications for Iran.

The fact that the Iranian leadership denies everything it does against Azerbaijan, including the rabid anti-Azerbaijani propaganda can be explained simply: lie and falsifications are the basic principles in the foreign policy of the modern leadership of Iran which is misleading the whole world and does it successfully. But this won’t last long!!

Fifth: The Azerbaijani-Israeli ties have traditionally been built on trustful and practically mutually profitable basis. It is not a secret that it is mainly promoted by the large Azerbaijani diaspora in the world including in Azerbaijan that brings the truth about the tolerance of the Azerbaijani people, their past life in Azerbaijan, where there was no place for anti-Semitism and international feuds. Under the current leadership of Azerbaijan this is a very serious regulating factor in relations between our two countries and does not attach any conjunctural element into the comprehensive ties between Azerbaijan and Israel which are growing year by year. I do noy think that the tendency of weakening or concluding of these ties may appear in the coming years.

As for Iran which chose anti-Semitism and almost fascist hatred to the state of Israel, this is explained quite simply-thus, it is easier for the Iranian people to set up all problems and complexities as the intrigues of Zionists and their ‘patron’-the United States. The threats to terminate Israel, perverting history, including the denial of Holocaust, the use of the Nazi propaganda of the Hebbel’s times, the verbal insulting lexica are all form the arsenal of the Iranian anti-Israeli propaganda, which shows that the Iranian leadership conceals its fear and ignorance before the revenge of history, which was and will be inevitable. Your readers are aware of the examples of history and I think that this requital comes soon, while the Iranian people that have a great history, pages of immortal contribution to world culture, names of outstanding scientists, poets and thinkers will say their word.

Their names do not fall in comparison with those who think themselves right to make their people suffer and terminate them in Iran. This is not only abnormal but also a violation of all religious commands of Koran and the holy books of other peoples of the world.

Sixth: Israel has never concealed that the military solution and the strike on Iran which would stop the nuclear ambitions of the Iranian ruling elite always remain on the agency. There are many factors of why this has not occurred yet. But the time is expiring, Iran cannot do this for long, the measures taken by the world community, deal a great blow on the economy of Iran, on the stability of the Iranian regime. This, in turn, makes it solution closer and I would say the only think that Israel is the only state of Jews that survived the Disaster and lost six and half million of their brothers and sisters in the second world war and which today loses young and old lives due to terror and hatred of the heirs of Nazism.

No one will ever stop our country if it finally becomes clear that we are facing the lethal threat to our existence and no one will ever dare to accuse Israel of the right to protect its people. I don’t know whether the Iranian leaders understand this- I think that their only listen to themselves and the common sense is not their privilege.

What is the possibility of the soonest military strike in Iran and should Azerbaijan join the anti-Iranian coalition in this case?

As for Azerbaijan’s possible involvement in the potential events, I think, it can be involved indirectly, as a country with the longest borders with Iran. However, here are many options and it can only be guessed about the developments and hope that wonder comes and the world community will attain the desired results from Iran and will stop the terrible threat of Iranian atom not only for Israel but also the entire world on the last minutes and seconds.

Baku is hosting Eurovision these days, international observers and experts are unanimous in praising the unique organization, the wonderful discovery of the fantastically beautiful country-Azerbaijan. I feel joy and sorrow, the love for the past and pride for modern Azerbaijan, its achievements among civilized nations and peoples. Eurovision is the response to those who accuse Azerbaijan even of bringing together the envoys of many peoples, who sing about love, friendship and hope to live and grow children and see the sunrise in the most beautiful city in the world-Baku. May it be so!
